National Pension Helpline - September 2025 Update

September 3rd, 2025

Hi ,

As we enter the final stretch of 2025, Ireland’s pension landscape continues to shift—both in terms of policy and performance.

This month, we’re highlighting two new articles that every pension holder in Ireland should read: one revealing the top-performing pension plans this year, and another covering a quiet but significant update from Revenue that could impact your ability to transfer your pension to a PRSA.

Up until now, transferring from an occupational pension to a PRSA was relatively straightforward - you could do it on your own timeline.

But in a quiet August update to Chapter 13 of the Pensions Manual, Revenue has changed the rules. If you’ve reached your scheme’s Normal Retirement Age (NRA), you may no longer be permitted to transfer to a PRSA at all.

And finally, we address a question from one of our readers who asked, “How can I set up a pension for my kids?”. In Ireland, the most common way to do that is through a vehicle called a “Bare Trust”. We explore this topic in detail below.
